Overview Of West MarinThe Coastal Towns |
|||||||||||
|
If you drive south on Highway One, you will find the beach towns of Bolinas, Stinson Beach and Muir Beach. these towns are all on the ocean and have sandy beaches with gorgeous views. Surfing and out door activities abound. The ocean influence is strong here. Head north instead, and you will discover the towns of Inverness Park, Inverness, on the west side of Tomales Bay and the rustic communities of Point Reyes Station, Marshall, and Tomales on the east side. These towns are gateways to the Point Reyes National seashore and its open space and home to oyster farms. Still further north we find ocean coast again and the towns of Dillon Beach at the north tip of Marin County and Bodega Bay just into Sonoma. The coastal towns of Marin seem a world away, separated from the hustle and bustle of East Marin county by mountains and hills. This is a wild and wonderful place, with towering cliffs, white beaches and thick forests. Except for these communities, the open spaces are preserved in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and the Point Reyes National Seashore. |
